Herbology 101 - The Foundations of Herbalism

This is a tentative schedule subject to change with the weather or whim… Any changes will be announced.

Wednesday

  • 12 pm. Welcoming snacks & hot tea will be available when you arrive. *Please remember to have a hearty lunch before arriving, as our first meal will be dinner tonight.      
  • 1 - 5 Introduction to the plants and habitats of Sage Mountain.  On this ‘walk about’, we’ll explore a variety of the habits of Sage Mountain and learn the medicinal and edible uses of plants as we stroll.  
  • 5:30 – 6:30          Welcome Feast.
  • 7 – 9:30      Opening Ceremony.  Drumming, singing, smudge. Kava Toast!  Introduction of staff and participants.  Each person will have the opportunity to share.   Followed by a  slide presentation of common edible and medicinal plants.

         
Thursday

  • 7:30-8:30 Breakfast
  • 8:30 – 9:30 Morning Herb Walk.  Join us on a stroll around the garden Sage Mt, learning to identify and use the plants that grow commonly around us.
  • 10 – 12:30 Herbs for Home Use, Part I. This will be an introduction to medicinal herbalism. We’ll discuss specific herbs, safety and toxicity issues, and appropriate use with allopathic medication.  Hands on tasting, sampling and experiencing the herbs!
  • 12:30 – 2:  Lunch and Break
  • 2 -6   Herbal Preparation, Part I; The art of making high quality herbal medicines and remedies in your kitchen.  Everything you need to know about making salves, tinctures, syrups, and other herbal preparations.
  • 6-7:30 Dinner
  • 8-9:30 Stewards of Healing Herbs; A slide presentation of at risk herbs and how we can each help to ensure the future of our precious native medicinal plants.

Friday

  • 7:30-8:30 Breakfast
  • 8:30 – 9:30 Morning Herb Walk.  Join us on a stroll around the gardens of Sage Mt, learning to identify and use the plants that grow commonly around us.
  • 10 – 12:30 Herbs for Home Use, Part II.  Creating a home ‘Materia Medica’.  We’ll continue with our discussion of using medicinal herbs for home health.   Hands on tasting, sampling and experiencing the herbs!   with a focus on Herbs for the Liver & Digestion.
  • 12:30 – 2:  Lunch and Break
  • 2 -6   Herbal Preparation, Part II. In this afternoon’s session, along with hands on preparations, we’ll also include time to ‘explore our personal relationship with plants’.   Experience the use of flower essences for home health care and how to make your own flower essences.  
  • 6-7:30 Dinner

           Enjoy the health giving properties of a traditional Sauna ~
We’ll fire up the Sauna tonight!

Saturday

  • 7:30-8:30 Breakfast
  • 9-12  Adaptogenic & Tonic Herbs   
  • 12-1:30 Lunch
  • 1:30 – 3:30 Herbal Formulation; how to blend herbs for maximum effectiveness.  We’ll also discuss the use of ‘simples’. 
  • 4-6:30 Rosemary’s Favorite Herbal Recipes and Remedies for  Health & Well Being.  
  • 6:30-7:30 Dinner
  • 8 ~ 10 Natural Body Care & Tea Party in Rosemary’s house.  Join me in my living room as I demonstrate some of my favorite natural body care products while we enjoy homemade cookies & tea.  

Sunday

  • 7:30-8:30 Breakfast
  • 9 – 12  Herbs for the Nervous System.  Chasing the Blues Away, using herbs for stress and anxiety and keeping calm and centered in a stressful world.  
  • 12 – 1 Lunch
  • 1 – 3  Herbal First Aide for Home and Travel.    Rosemary and assistants will share their personal first aide kits with you, discussing the various herbal items and their usefulness for first aide around the home and on the road.   
  • 3 – 4 Closing Ceremony
