Sage Mountain Herbs & Earth Awareness, 2013
Welcome to Sage Mountain
Welcome to Sage Mountain. Founded by Rosemary Gladstar and family, Sage Mountain Retreat Center & Native Plant Preserve is one of New England’s foremost learning centers for herbs and earth awareness. Located on 500 wilderness acres in central Vermont, this beautiful piece of Earth Mother is a natural sanctuary and teaching site. There is an incredible assortment of wild herbs and flowers growing in habitats that vary from meadows, forest to swamp. Our wild neighbors include deer, bear, moose, beavers, bobcat, otters, fox and a wonderful variety of feathered folk that honor us with their presence. Our facilities are simple, rustic and comfortable and provide a relaxing and beautiful place for participants to learn.
This marks our 26th year of offering programs at Sage Mountain. Though we will be offering fewer programs this year on the Mountain, we have a busy year planned with two large herbal events ~ the International Herb Symposium & the New England Women’s Herbal Conference ~ as well as several Plant Lover’s Journey’s and a couple of our perennially favorite classes. Rosemary will be traveling and teaching at several other events as well. We are also seeking new owners/stewards of Sage Mountain. As we grow older (Rosemary turned 64 this year on 12-12-12!), we yearn to simplify, do less, and ‘be more’. If your dream includes owning a beautiful mountain retreat and/or running a small retreat center, please contact us. Not a ‘simple dream’, this will require a particular person or group of people with energy and financial resources, but its a fulfilling dream worth pursuing…..
November 30th – December 13th, 2014
Yes, we are planning to return to this stunning region of the world and invite you to join us ~
A Place of vast vistas and wild untamed beauty.... This region of Patagonia is one of the most stunning on earth and offers the nature enthusiast and plant lover alike an opportunity to be in pure uninterrupted wilderness amongst some of the worlds largest tracts of wilderness, oldest trees, tallest mountains, and greatest plant diversity. Where else can you see Condors flying over head, 3,000 year old Alerce trees, and drink wild water directly from the lakes and streams?
Patagonia is not only one of the richest regions of the world in the biodiversity of plants, it is also rich in plant experts...naturalists, biologists, botanists, herbalists, ethnobotanists, agronomists live here to study, research and teach. We will have the opportunity to meet with several of these plant impassioned people and participate in plant walks, presentations and ceremonies with them.

Dearest Friends, Good morning!!
I lingered a little longer in bed this morning, watching the early morning sun glistening on fresh fallen snow, my heart overflowing with gratitude and thanks giving for all the gifts that have been given me in this lifetime and most especially for the amazing beautiful people in my life. For each of you, my teachers, students, friends, family, I give incredible thanks and honor and wish for you a full heart and a beautiful day of thanks giving.
I think back over the years to that time when I opened my first little herb shop in the small town of Guerneville, California. I was 22 years old, following a dream that I really had no idea where it would lead! What an awesome journey it’s been! That little herb store, Rosemary’s Garden, is still there, planted on such fertile soil and watered so well by a loving community. The store led to the creation of a line of tea blends made for my community that would later become Traditional Medicinals. My dear friend, Drake Sadler, who helped me dream and launch the tea line, still runs the company and has grown it into an international company that is an industry leader in environmental standards (the company runs entirely on solar energy, all the packaging is still recycled and recyclable, they use organically cultivated herbs and are a huge supporter of United Plant Savers). The classes I taught in the loft of that small store grew to become The California School of Herbal Studies. That amazing school is still open today and continues to train hundreds of students in the herbal healing arts under the careful guidance of Rebecca and Jason
