Sage Mountain Herbs & Earth Awareness, 2014

Welcome to Sage Mountain

Rosemary Gladstar & a Young Herbalist at Brietenbush Hot Springs

Welcome to Sage Mountain.  Founded by Rosemary Gladstar and family, Sage Mountain Retreat Center & Native Plant Preserve is one of New England’s foremost learning centers for herbs and earth awareness. Located on 500 wilderness acres in central Vermont, this beautiful piece of Earth Mother is a natural sanctuary and teaching site. There is an incredible assortment of wild herbs and flowers growing in habitats that vary from meadows, forest to swamp. Our wild neighbors include deer, bear, moose, beavers, bobcat, otters, fox and a wonderful variety of feathered folk that honor us with their presence. Our facilities are simple, rustic and comfortable and provide a relaxing and beautiful place for participants to learn.

This marks our 27th year of offering programs at Sage Mountain.  Though we will be offering fewer programs this year on the Mountain, we have a busy year planned with two large herbal events ~ the International Herb Symposium & the New England Women’s Herbal Conference ~ as well as several Plant Lover’s Journey’s and a couple of our perennially favorite classes. Rosemary will be traveling and teaching at several other events as well.  We are also seeking new owners/stewards of Sage Mountain.  As we grow older (Rosemary turned 64 this year on 12-12-12!), we yearn to simplify, do less, and ‘be more’.  If your dream includes owning a beautiful mountain retreat and/or running a small retreat center, please contact us.   Not a ‘simple dream’, this will require a particular person or group of people with energy and financial resources, but its a fulfilling dream worth pursuing…..

Storey Press Release for Rosemary Gladstar's New Book

Rosemary Gladstar’s Medicinal Herbs: A Beginner’s Guide is available from Storey Publishing in March 2012.

Spending hours in the cough & cold aisle of your local pharmacy, wondering what the difference is between a suppressant, an expectorant, and a decongestant, only to get home, dose yourself, and realize you just spent twelve bucks on something for a stuffy nose when you have a runny one? With so many brands, so many variations by the same brand, and so many scary stories of pharmacological side effects, it’s almost impossible to leave a drug store feeling confident about what you inevitably just paid too much money for.

This is only one of the reasons why more and more people are returning to the ancient healing art of herbalism, and there is no better instructor in the practice of simple, safe, and effective natural medicine than Rosemary Gladstar. One of the most trusted and well-respected herbalists of her time – known as the godmother of modern herbalism – Gladstar demonstrates how easy it is to make safe, all-natural, low-cost healing remedies for common ailments in her new book, Rosemary Gladstar’s Medicinal Herbs: A Beginner’s Guide.
