Sage Mountain Herbs & Earth Awareness, 2014

Welcome to Sage Mountain

Rosemary Gladstar & a Young Herbalist at Brietenbush Hot Springs

Welcome to Sage Mountain.  Founded by Rosemary Gladstar and family, Sage Mountain Retreat Center & Native Plant Preserve is one of New England’s foremost learning centers for herbs and earth awareness. Located on 500 wilderness acres in central Vermont, this beautiful piece of Earth Mother is a natural sanctuary and teaching site. There is an incredible assortment of wild herbs and flowers growing in habitats that vary from meadows, forest to swamp. Our wild neighbors include deer, bear, moose, beavers, bobcat, otters, fox and a wonderful variety of feathered folk that honor us with their presence. Our facilities are simple, rustic and comfortable and provide a relaxing and beautiful place for participants to learn.

This marks our 27th year of offering programs at Sage Mountain.  Though we will be offering fewer programs this year on the Mountain, we have a busy year planned with two large herbal events ~ the International Herb Symposium & the New England Women’s Herbal Conference ~ as well as several Plant Lover’s Journey’s and a couple of our perennially favorite classes. Rosemary will be traveling and teaching at several other events as well.  We are also seeking new owners/stewards of Sage Mountain.  As we grow older (Rosemary turned 64 this year on 12-12-12!), we yearn to simplify, do less, and ‘be more’.  If your dream includes owning a beautiful mountain retreat and/or running a small retreat center, please contact us.   Not a ‘simple dream’, this will require a particular person or group of people with energy and financial resources, but its a fulfilling dream worth pursuing…..

An ‘herb camp’ as much as an ‘herb school’, students learn more than seems possible in a few days time, while having a ‘ton of fun’, enjoying the relaxing atmosphere of Sage Mountain and the great company of other herb students.

Rocio is a remarkable healer, shaman and teacher as well as a beautiful soulful person who has inspired hundreds of people with her healing work.   A native of Ecuador, Rocio shares ceremonies and healing traditions of the Amazon and the Andes.   In this workshop, we’ll learn special healing ceremonies using flowers, herbs, and oils.  How to use plants to remove negative energies. Learn how to ‘see & read’ health conditions in people and how to cleanse the body.   We never quite know what Rocio may teach or share, but it’s always amazing and magical.  Your time spent with her may very well transform your life! Rosemary will offer herb walks, plant meditations, and be here to serve in whatever ways she’s needed.

Special Letter from Rosemary Gladstar

Dear Friends,

United Plant Savers

United Plant Savers is nearing its 20th anniversary! Birthed in 1994, UpS has helped to shape the direction of American Herbalism from a focus on our human health needs to one that includes the health and vitality of our native plant communities. As 'Stewards of Healing Herbs' (I like to think of us as the 'plant huggers' of the green revolution) our mission includes the conservation and preservation of native medicinal plants and the habitat they grow in, with a focus on organic cultivation and long term sustainability.

We've done an amazing job in the few years since we took on this task, especially considering we are a small organization with limited resources. One of our goals this year is to increase our membership so that we are a larger voice for the plants. Please help us reach our goal of 2000 members by 2014!!!If each of our current members signed up one new member we would far exceed our goal. And this month, March, is a perfect time to sign someone up because one of our board members has pledged to match each new membership with a matching donation!!!

We look forward to celebrating UpS's 20th Anniversary with 2000 members and 20 years of dedication to plant conservation and stewardship. Help us reach our goal! If you’re not already a member, please join now. And if you are a member, please sign up a plant loving friend. Membership entitles you to free seeds and plants, discounts at events and conferences, the Journal of Medicinal Plant Conservation, quarterly bulletins and the opportunity to be a voice for the plants.

Green Blessings,

Rosemary Gladstar
