Sage Mountain Herbs & Earth Awareness, 2013
Welcome to Sage Mountain
Welcome to Sage Mountain. Founded by Rosemary Gladstar and family, Sage Mountain Retreat Center & Native Plant Preserve is one of New England’s foremost learning centers for herbs and earth awareness. Located on 500 wilderness acres in central Vermont, this beautiful piece of Earth Mother is a natural sanctuary and teaching site. There is an incredible assortment of wild herbs and flowers growing in habitats that vary from meadows, forest to swamp. Our wild neighbors include deer, bear, moose, beavers, bobcat, otters, fox and a wonderful variety of feathered folk that honor us with their presence. Our facilities are simple, rustic and comfortable and provide a relaxing and beautiful place for participants to learn.
This marks our 26th year of offering programs at Sage Mountain. Though we will be offering fewer programs this year on the Mountain, we have a busy year planned with two large herbal events ~ the International Herb Symposium & the New England Women’s Herbal Conference ~ as well as several Plant Lover’s Journey’s and a couple of our perennially favorite classes. Rosemary will be traveling and teaching at several other events as well. We are also seeking new owners/stewards of Sage Mountain. As we grow older (Rosemary turned 64 this year on 12-12-12!), we yearn to simplify, do less, and ‘be more’. If your dream includes owning a beautiful mountain retreat and/or running a small retreat center, please contact us. Not a ‘simple dream’, this will require a particular person or group of people with energy and financial resources, but its a fulfilling dream worth pursuing…..

Beyond Herbology 101 has consistently been one of our favorite and most popular programs on Sage Mountain. We generally invite two teachers and Rosemary to discuss topics of interest for the intermediate to advanced students of herbalism. We decided to offer it once again for those intermediate students of herbalism who wish to develop and hone their skills of herbal practice.

Replacing the “Guinea Pig”: Safer, Humane Chemical Tests
In June 2010, the Environmental Defense Fund and its partners in the campaign to reform U.S. law to regulate chemicals made an impassioned plea for American consumers not to be treated like “guinea pigs.” I’d like to remind our friends and colleagues in the environmental and consumer protection communities that advocates for animal protection – while respecting the interests of all animals and believing that none of them should be treated like disposable lab equipment – also care about protecting human health and the environment, and that we all must work together to achieve a future that is both safer and more humane.
Numen: The Nature of Plants
A film about the healing power of plants
by Film Makers Terry Youk and Ann Armbrecht.
Numen is a 95 minute documentary focusing on the healing power of plants and the natural world. Filmmakers Terrance Youk and Ann Armbrecht traveled the U.S. to speak with herbalists and doctors, ethnobotanists and others about how our disconnection with nature affects human and environmental health and to discover how healing is made possible by embracing our place in the wider web of life. Featuring stunning footage of medicinal plants and moving interviews, Numen provides viewers with a new vision of medicine and offers steps to improve individual health and well being that enhance the health of the earth.
