An outstanding herbal educational experience, the Spirit & Essence of Herbs Apprenticeship combines both didactic study with practical hands on learning.

Rosemary Gladstar

The Apprentice Program offers the unique opportunity to live herbs, create herbal products, learn diagnostic skills, formulate your own medicines, and learn the plants in the wild. This program emphasizes practical hands-on learning, and is geared toward the beginner to intermediate student.

Emphasis is placed on learning by doing, by experimenting and experiencing. The plants are considered to be our primary teachers and we, the students, learn to come to them from open hearts. Our journey is to awaken the ancient wisdom implanted in each of our hearts, the genetic encoding of thousands of years of herb usage instilled in our memory banks.

Long Distance Apprentice Programs

We’re delighted to be able to offer this second Apprentice option for those people wishing an in depth learning experience but who are unable to attend Rosemary Gladstar’s one weekend a month program. This Apprentice Program meets for two full weeks (one week in the spring of 2007 & one week in the summer of 2008). The Apprentice Program also includes the Science & Art of Herbalism Home Study Program, which, ideally, can be completed between class sessions. Though formatted differently, both Apprentice Programs meet for the same number of days, cover the same class topics, and provides the foundational tools and necessary experience to practice herbalism as a home health art.

You’ll feel like you’re in Herb Heaven! We’ve had people join us from all over the United States and abroad for this exceptional herbal studies program. Classes will often meet outdoors in the gardens or in the beautiful surrounding countryside. Activities will be hands on with lots of opportunities for experiencing the plants up close. We’ll identify, harvest and prepare the herbs as we learn them; go on field trips to local growers and herb farms; experience ceremonies and sacred plant medicine; play with the beauty of the plants and make natural cosmetics, creams and lotions as well as many medicinal preparations. We’ll be literally living herbs day and night and you will find yourself infused in their beauty, healing power, and joy. Rosemary’s known for her lively and inspirational teaching ~ and for making learning fun, enjoyable and creative.

Rosemary Gladstar Advanced Herbal Training Program

This program is one of our most popular classes and provides an excellent opportunity for intermediate/advanced students of herbalism to pursue their herbal studies in a focused and systematic manner with some of the best herbal instructors in the country.

Students have the opportunity to further their herbal education, develop skills necessary to become practicing community herbalists and to hone their skills as practitioners.

Each month’s program covers a specific body system and corresponding herbs and herbal therapies, as well as diagnostic tools, constitutional herbalism, botany, anatomy & physiology review, plant spirit medicine and other topics of interest to practicing herbalists.

Instructors are all well known herbal practitioners who have been selected for their ability to provide information in a stimulating informative manner. There will be homework and some time involved outside class for projects and studies.

The weekends run from Friday afternoon through Sunday afternoon. Friday afternoons are spent in round table discussions studying case histories and/ or seeing clients. Emphasis is on peer review and feedback. Friday evening is a general lecture that will cover a variety of subjects. Saturday and Sunday are full intense days of study with our guest speaker.
